RE: Another newbie..

Hi Maureen

Welcome to the Poldark website forum! It is lovely to see new people joining up. Sorry there is not more activity on the forum, we are hoping it will grow and flourish... I read your message in the Warleggan section and am going to go and reply to it in a mo but wanted to do this first.

It is strange what a hold the novels and TV series had over so many people. It is amazing how many people look at the Poldark site every day.

I was only 7 or 8 when the first TV series was shown but I was amazingly lucky to live in Botallack at the time which is about half a mile from Ross and Demelza's house Nampara in the first series. The Crowns are very nearby too - that was my childhood playground! I even (swoon) met Robin Ellis filming the second series but was only about 9 or 10 at that stage. I still haven't changed my opinion of him after all these years - my taste in men hasn't changed! He gave me his autograph on the back of a rizla packet (belonging to my Dad). I will never forget that moment.

I started to read the books then and like many people re-read them many times.

I have to say I don't think there should be more books, but I do think there should be another TV series before Robin Ellis and Angharad Rees get too old for the roles.... They both still look amazing at the moment though.

So glad you liked Cornwall - I don't live there anymore (live in Scotland now which is amazing too) but do get homesick and find myself checking out most days.

Keep posting!

Hi I'm Maureen from the Isle of Wight. I read the first 4 Poldark books years ago, just after the series was screened, but being young and silly I moved on to other reading matter and although the stories and characters stayed with me all these years my interest has really been re-awakened by a recent trip to Cornwall. Knowing we were going, I just had to re-read the books and I rediscovered how absorbing they are!! I have now bought the remaining 8 and have read the whole lot back to back - I am currently half way through 'The Loving Cup' and part of me wants to finish it and get on to the last two, but another part of me can see the end of 'Bella' looming and I don't want it to end!! Having discovered that the series of books has continued right up to 2002, I had hoped there would be more - only to find that Winston has died!! I agree that someone should carry on the good work - but finding someone who can capture these characters and do justice to the previous books is going to be difficult!!

PS Cornwall is amazing - and I surprised everyone with my knowledge of 18 Century mining!!!!
