Certainly a fine and convincing actress in the role, but I've always felt Norma Streader played WG's character Verity to absolute perfection and just as depicted in the books and why for me she is still the finest actor/actress of all in both series. Being very human, warm, caring, loving, natural, vulnerable and kind yet always a strong shoulder for Ross/Robin to rely on, consequently no need for any determination because I think she was just simply being herself so no need to ever act. I always think of her when re-reading the books too.
Amusingly she herself said afterwards that as soon as she'd read the part she knew it was for her and became determined to have it....
I do like Ruby as Verity. She has just the right mix of vulnerability and determination. I felt in the 1970s series she came across as very confident, which wasn't how I saw her at all.
