Great news! Glad to hear this and can't wait to see it! I hope that all the books are covered this time. Sad to think this couldn't have happened with the original cast, but understandable.

Totally agree, Richard Armitage would make the perfect Ross Poldark for me too.  I sincerely hope that the casting directors get it right with the two main characters.  Ross has to be played by someone with the confidence, energy, strength of character and charisma to pull off the role successfully; he has to appear to be older, moody and mature enough to get inside the skin of the role.  I'm just slightly concerned as to whether a young actor, straight out of drama school with little or no real experience would have what it takes.  Ross is a man of the world, a battle scarred soldier who has returned to Cornwall mentally older than his years and keenly aware of the horrors of war and the less pleasant aspects of human nature.  Whoever plays him has to possess the grit and determination to bring his character believably alive.

I also have a soft spot for Richard Armitage and think he would make a wonderful Ross.

Hi BDHawkey and welcome to the forum, good to have another member from Cornwall !

Thanks for the update which was good news of course however we're always very interested and keen to know the latest local situation the moment anything appears. Many of us also thought some time ago that perhaps Richard Armitage would be the best actor to play Ross, but now that it sounds as though they're actively looking for Cornish actors as with Demelza and hopefully for many of the Sawle village roles as well, it'll be very interesting to know who is finally chosen. Have you any particular choice.... ?

Ross smile

I'm sure many of you already know about this news regarding the remake

http://www.westbriton.co.uk/Poldark-Cornish-teenage-actress-play-Demelza-new/story-20495102-detail/story.html

The production company's casting director has drawn up a shortlist of about 40 girls from the county to play Demelza and will show the videos of the auditions to the producers in London.  The casting director Susie Parriss said "We would love to have a Cornish woman in the role. That would be fantastic but we will have to find a really talented actress.."

Filming of Poldark is due to begin at locations in Cornwall from April, 2014. There is no news yet on who is to play Ross Poldark.

* Extracts from the West Briton Newspaper dated 30th January, 2014.

Excellent. Thanks for posting the article. I just hope that as the writer suggests, the remake is taken as seriously as the golden seventies original. Oh, and perhaps Neil Clark ought to be invited to join us, as he sound so much like one of us. It's interesting that his wife, with no previous exposure to Poldark, and in spite of it being a rather different production to what is on offer these days, should stil be captivated by it, viewing it for the first time nigh on forty years downstream from the original production broadcast. No wonder the video/DVD boxed sets are the still the second most successful BBC boxed set of all time.

Thanks so much for posting this article from the Daily Telegraph Bells.  Such a positive viewpoint and really agreed with the penultimate and last paragraph, which make perfect sense.  Reporting like this bodes well as a way of influencing the writer and production team for the new series and as long as they stick closely to the WG's real story-line when writing the script this new production has the potential to be a phenomenal success. biggrin

Bella - thanks for all the articles here.

Where are these people getting these actor suggestions? In one of the facebook Poldark groups, someone twittered the production company and they said they will be looking for an actor in his early 30s. Are these guys that old? They certainly don't look it nor are they Ross material, IMHO.

Where do you find all these reports, Bella?   Hey - I been thinkin'.  D'you spose they might have a part for me and John this time round?  After all, we been with Cap't these 223 years or so and that did ought to count for somethin'.  John would be real made up 'bout that - him  on that picture machine.

Oo - had better get back to the kitchen - I see Master Ross be on 'is way for dinner.

Evening Mrs G

That photo was on the top of the said article, I agree with you, he could not be Ross Poldark.....I think he would make a perfect older Jeremy....

Now it's been a busy day, I had to ride into Truro, I desperately wanted to get a copy of the Sherbourne Mercury to read all the exciting news.....then when I got home, I was not at all happy to see a rat on my bird feeder and then nibbling on my fat balls, and in broad daylight, cheeky little bleeder.....

Best wishes to you Jane, as always

Bella xxxxx

Typical, you go away for a few days and miss this lovely news!!

As you say, Dwight, 6 episodes?  Do you think that is for book 1?  It surely cannot be for all 12 volumes - or even the first 4.  I suppose more news will leak out in due course.  I do not know any of the actors who have been mentioned in that article, but the photo of someone Bella posted is not my idea of Ross.  What think others?

Anything is better than nothing, but not knowing how many, and which books, 6x1 hour episodes sounds a tad parsimonius. Having recently finished "The Twisted Sword", and being midway through "Bella", each one of these two books alone could justify 6x1 hour episodes. We probably need to be careful what we wish for.
