RE: Longtime fan checking in

Hi AudreyB, and welcome from another newbie member.   I'm way behind you (on the second book) and I, too, just ordered a slew of secondhand volumes (Books 3-7) so I won't have to wait between books.

Nice to meet you and happy reading!

Hello AudreyB and welcome, how wonderful that you have the pleasure of discovering the delights of the last 5 books ahead of you; you won't be disappointed!  It's true that the Poldark TV series has aged well, and regardless of the limitations in so far as studio lighting and outside filming techniques, has retained it's charm and timeless appeal.  Know what you mean about the men looking a bit washed-out and often times I've wanted to gently mop Ross's brow and top lip, but pale and sweaty as they might appear, I think our main Poldark characters remain handsome as ever.  Happy reading!

Tide was nearly full. Mist lay in a grey scarf along the line of the cliffs.
.. and they walked home hand in hand through the slanting shadows of the new darkness.

I first met the Poldarks when the Series II aired on PBS here in the States.  I think I read the first 7 books next, and then was able to see parts of Series I.

Recently I noticed that Series I was available on Netflix and watched the whole thing in about a week.  It truly has aged well (though I now have a new appreciation for whatever improvements have been made in studio lighting - the men are always sweaty & tend to appear washed out when outdoors).

This week I received the final 5 books (found a used book site - some were less than a dollar!) and am hungrily reading my way through them.

Series II will be on Netflix in October 2010.  I can't wait!!
