RE: Paul Kellow's boot

I've only just finished reading them through properly 3/ 4 weeks ago and in order this time (!), and I thought the same thing too as I couldn't remember any mention in the previous books either. Was it one boot or both ? Obviously it was easy to suspect Valentine because of his limp....

Still fantastic writing at the age of 92 or so ! biggrin

She had said to him: 'Well, boy,' and his life had changed.

I'm currently reading "Bella" and enjoying it tremendously.  I want to get to the end of the story, but part of me doesn't want the series to finish.

(The next paragraph contains plot info - please don't read on if you don't want the plot revealed)

However, one thing has been puzzling me, the question of the platform boot. I don't remember in previous novels any reference to Paul Kellow wearing special shoes, possibly because of a deformity? Yet in "Bella", as we follow the clues towards the potential identity of the murderer, this is mentioned. Have there been previous references which I've missed/forgotten? Or is anyone else confused?
