Been quite a while since I read it but very much of a fresh Thirties colonial feel from memory with perhaps the same sort of atmosphere as the Cornish film "Summer in February" earlier this year as it takes place on the Cornish coast as well, however revolving round a very ordinary Cornish guest house. Similar to several other of his pre war books with their in depth romantic entanglements too plus a murder mystery to unravel along the way....
Hope this helps

Definitely looks worth reading! I might be asking Santa to get hold of it for me, after all, he can find anything, can't he?

"Readers who like their books full of drama, acting, love and good writing will be interested in this story. Mr. Graham handles it in such a masterly manner, vivid and brisk, and with such real understanding, not only of human nature, but of his characters, that it is a delight to read. It is a brilliant study of human character and an entrancing story, well worth reading." - Dudley Herald.
"This is a novel that would do credit to almost any author. Winston Graham has accomplished the rare feat of the perfect story. Plot, characters and background, when treated with such uniform care and skill, make an irresistible combination and the result is wholly satisfying." - Bexhill Observer.
"A fine blend of excitement and mystery keeps the interest of the reader at its very highest, from the very first until the interesting and unexpected conclusion of a most entrancing and absorbing novel is reached." - Cork Examiner.
