Interesting about the hair debate isn't it - honestly if I was an actress as relatively little known as Ellie I would be doing ANYTHING to get into this production! Including dying my hair! They must have really wanted her to accept this rather strong condition....same with Angharad back in the day.
A passionate child rolling in the dust with her ugly dog; a girl driving oxen; a woman....Did anything else matter?
Thanks for the link really stirring some memories !
I felt the same about Demelza too but liked the spontaneous way she suddenly smiled back at Ross, bringing a touch of charisma when Ross dropping his head and looking away perhaps reluctantly said 'but you might not want to come'.
Need to check a '60's onwards RP edition to see how WG described it, then compare it with the first edition books printed between '45 - '49 odd as he unfortunately changed quite a lot afterwards. Garrick is much as I imagined, though a trifle bored till someone got his attention !
Obviously Mammoth will always be referring to the later editions....

Apologies if this is already on here somewhere.
Short clip following the BBC british drama advert featuring Benedict Cumberbatch shown yesterday.

I had my reservations about the new Demelza, but I'm warming to her and think it looks very promising from this clip.
Probably a very controversial comment, but why didn't they cast Eleanor Tomlinson as Elizabeth and Heida Reed as Demelza. Both actresses could, to my mind, have been perfect for either role and Eleanor possesses the fragile beauty and characteristics of Elizabeth to make a success of the role. The reason I heard for why Eleanor didn't dye her hair dark was that it was in a vulnerable condition after previous colour treatments. Well, we will just have to wait and see how well they inhabit their characters before passing judgement.
Tide was nearly full. Mist lay in a grey scarf along the line of the cliffs. .. and they walked home hand in hand through the slanting shadows of the new darkness.
Just remembered that this '60's cover pic has always been in the back of my mind as being Demelza because WG would have seen it.... !
She is so unlike my idea of Demelza! We can only wait and see if her skills can dispel that impression.
Here they are, our new romantic leading couple ....
